The Architects

James Robson and his team at HazleMcCormackYoung LLP, a chartered architectural practice, have built the first truly contemporary home on Camber Sands. Maximising the relationship with the landscape was vital, and James and his team have certainly exceeded expectations there - the views from the house and its intimate relationship with the ever changing landscape, viewed through so much glazing and from so many different aspects, is a real success. Working from two Kent studios, the award winning HMY team is 33 strong.

The Garden Designer

After a 10 year career in teaching Jo started her second career in garden design in 2005. She was soon recognised by the gardening media for her unique planting design skills and was named as one of the 10 rising stars in garden design by House and Garden magazine. She is also  a visiting tutor at the London College of Garden Design.

Recent medal success includes a gold and ‘Best in Show’ (Urban Garden) at the 2010  RHS Chelsea Flower Show, a silver medal at the Gardening World Cup, Japan October 2011, and Jo will be at RHS Chelsea 2012 with a large show garden for The Caravan Club.

Based in Kent, Jo designs a wide range of gardens from tiny rooftop spaces to residential gardens, public spaces and country estates, both in the UK and overseas. Her work draws inspiration from the Italian landscapes where she spent her childhood summers: the gardens she creates tend to be structured within strong classical lines, softened by abundant and natural planting.

Jo has been responsible for designing and building the beach side garden at Sea Gem, which recently won won the award for the Best Rural Garden 2011 a Silver Gilt at  the New Homes and Gardens Best Rural Garden Awards.

The Interior Designer

Caroline Robinson started her business 8 years ago and concentrates on commissions for private houses. Her passion lies in creating the interior schemes that reflect the architecture of the building and its location.

At Sea Gem, Caroline has designed an interior to complement the contemporary building and its panoramic sea views and incorporated local artefacts in the interior styling.

The porthole mirror in the living room gives the impression of a moving cinematic reflection of beach life, while even the strongest Camber winds will find it difficult to dislodge the sand blasted and oiled winch doubling up as a doorstop in the entrance lobby.

The furniture was carefully selected to reflect the mood of the room. You'll find stunning seascapes upstairs, with contemporary and comfortable room styling, and a more relaxed and convivial space on the ground floor.
